Movember

Make November count on your stream

Movember raises awareness of prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men's mental health. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men, the same age as many of the people watching streams. Your channel can start that conversation.

What is Movember?

It started in Australia more than twenty years ago, when a few mates grew moustaches to get people talking about men's health, a conversation nobody was having. Today it's a global charity that funds research and support programmes all year round. The moustache is the symbol: grown during November, it makes people ask why.

The three causes it funds

  • Prostate cancer

The most diagnosed cancer in men worldwide, especially over 50: more than 1.4 million men a year. From around 50, or earlier if it runs in your family, ask your doctor about the PSA blood test.

  • Testicular cancer

The most common cancer in young men, and one of the most curable when it's found early. Checking yourself once a month takes a couple of minutes.

  • Mental health and suicide prevention

Men are less likely to ask for help. Talking, checking in on your friends and knowing where to turn makes a real difference.

Three ways to take part

All of them work with your own fundraising page. Pick the one that fits your channel, or do all three.

  • Grow a moustache

Start the month clean-shaven and let it grow for 30 days. The moustache does the talking.

  • Move

Run or walk 60 km during November, one for each of the 60 men lost to suicide every hour. In one go or a bit every day.

  • Host

Organise your own event and raise money with it. A charity stream counts.

Ideas for your Movember stream

Small things that keep it fun and respectful.

  • Shave on stream on day one

Start clean-shaven live, then do a quick moustache check every week. Chat will want to see the progress.

  • Set milestones

Announce what happens when the fundraiser reaches each goal: a challenge, a game chosen by chat or a vote on the moustache style.

  • Make the 60 km part of the show

Stream a walk outside or on a treadmill and count the kilometres together with chat.

  • Thank donors by name

Donations on movember.com don't trigger your Trigglow alerts. Keep your page open during the stream and thank people out loud.

  • Keep chat safe

Ask your mods to remove jokes about illness. If someone shares a personal story, let them decide how much to tell.

  • Leave advice to professionals

Point people to movember.com and to their doctor instead of answering health questions yourself.

Check yourself

Know what's normal for your body and see a doctor if something changes. Caught early, testicular cancer has a survival rate of more than 95%.
